Are Shun Chef's Knives considered "French" Knives? - shun classic

Hello, I am required to start on the cooking school and classroom, an 8 "chef's knife. They say that the chef's knife," 8 "(French Knife)" So I ask myself, what if I 'buy 8-inch Chef's Knife Shun I can fulfill requirements or just go straight stick my teacher? seems to be the same as that of other heads of the classic French kitchen knives so I think the same thing but I'm still not 100% sure. I would buy this brand because I work as a cook / prep line for a while and the Chief Executive has allowed me to use their beautiful Shun knife and I, I liked both. thank you each would be a great help:)
